Pig + soccer ball
Have you been able to visit your beloveds during the pandemic? In the USA, public life is beginning to open up. Subways, buses, highways, and planes are increasingly crowded. Last month I went to visit my mom, Katherine Liang Chew, for the first time since March 2020., I was surprised to find on her bookshelf a small dried gourd, painted with a picture of a pig, and two other pictures of pigs, plus a soccer ball. Guessing this was painted by my late dad in celebration of the 2000 publication of her story “Xiao Zhu, Little Pig” in the 世界日报 “World Daily Newspaper or World Journal”, one of the major Chinese newspapers available in the USA.
